Preamble
Cuervo y Sobrinos is the only truly luxurious watch brand with a genuine Latin heritage. Inspired and enlivened by Havana's golden age, Cuervo y Sobrinos watches evoke a flamboyant and legendary lifestyle. Our timepieces bear witness to a magical and luxurious world of exceptional quality, elegance, creativity, exoticism, and joie de vivre. Swiss craftsmanship, Latin heritage: the exceptional combination of Swiss expertise with a vibrant Latin heritage gives Cuervo y Sobrinos a unique and inimitable advantage within the Swiss watchmaking industry.
The story
In 1862, Don Ramon Cuervo, who came from Asturias, established his first jewelry shop in Havana. The business grew, and Don Ramon was joined by his nephews, giving rise to the name Cuervo y Sobrinos (his nephews) in 1882. The shop moved several times, expanding each time. In 1920, the owners opened branches in Pforzheim, Germany, for sourcing stones and one in Paris for trading jewelry.
In 1928, Cuervo y Sobrinos opened a watch factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Thus, from the beginning of the 20th century, Cuervo y Sobrinos produced its own watch models with a timeless, Latin design... and was also the sole importer in Cuba of major historical Swiss brands such as Patek Philippe (note that the Esplendidos by CyS has a case identical to the Patek Philippe of that era!), Rolex, Longines, Omega, Juvenia, Ulysse Nardin...
In the 1950s, during Cuba's golden age and when Havana was the most luxurious city in the Caribbean, the boutique and brand attracted celebrities such as Caruso, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, Clark Gable, Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Neruda...
Castro's rise to power spelled the end of the boutique's independence, as it was nationalized! Until 1965, the brand continued to produce a few military watches for the Cuban army. Between 1965 and 1996, the company ceased production, forced into dormancy. The brand was acquired in 1997, relaunched in 2001, exhibited in Basel for the first time in 2002, and has since developed inspired collections, rich in its Latin American heritage! Finally, in 2018, it was taken over by a group of investors, with Massimo Rossi as its president.
The brand celebrated the founding of Havana in 1519 by Christopher Columbus by presenting some memorable limited series, and its original creations delight lovers of different and tangy watchmaking... Each watch is delivered - Havana being what it is - in a sumptuous cigar humidor made of precious wood.
Cuervo y Sobrinos was a pioneer in its time! It was one of the few watch and jewelry boutiques that decided, alongside distributing existing watch brands, to create its own watch brand. This is also the concept adopted by Michel Fréret-Roy today in his Parisian boutique, where he offers independent watch brands as well as his own collection! This speaks volumes about the shared spirit that unites the two names, Cuervo y Sobrinos and Fréret-Roy!
To celebrate this shared passion, Fréret-Roy is one of the boutiques in Paris with the widest selection of Cuervo y Sobrinos watches. With every purchase of a Cuervo y Sobrinos watch, we will offer you a gift bearing the brand's name or logo (while supplies last).
A wide selection of the collection available in store is shown below, but you can also order any model that is not available at Fréret-Roy during your visit. Please feel free to contact us...

Historiador Collection
Historiador Cronógrafo
Estoril
Cuervo y Sobrinos, official timekeeper of the Iberian Historic Endurance, is pleased to unveil a limited edition chronograph, the Historiador Cronógrafo Estoril. The Cronógrafo Estoril pays tribute to the iconic Portuguese circuit of Estoril, the most prestigious in the "Iberian Historic Endurance" series.
The watch pays homage to the iconic Estoril circuit in Portugal, the most prestigious in the historic Iberian endurance racing series. The dial is inspired by the vibrant colors of the Lotus 97T, the car Ayrton Senna drove to victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix in Estoril in 1985.
The dial's composition is enriched with a myriad of subtle and carefully chosen details. While the silver-toned hour and minute hands and the small seconds hand at 9 o'clock are all leaf-shaped, the 30-minute and 12-hour counter hands at 6 o'clock are black with prominent triangular tips. The chronograph hand matches the color of the counters. The tachymeter scale is displayed on a black background, enhancing legibility. The word "Taquimetro," meaning tachymeter in Portuguese and Spanish, pays homage to the origins of the historic race.
With a diameter of 42 mm, the stainless steel case exudes modernity. The sapphire crystal case back reveals the automatic caliber CYS 8100, based on the Valjoux 7753. Furthermore, the crystal is decorated with a reproduction of the 4.182 km Estoril racetrack.
The watch is presented on a perforated black calfskin strap in a "driving-style" design with brown gold stitching. The perforations are reminiscent of traditional racing gloves worn in the past.
Limited to 88 individually numbered pieces, this watch is a true treasure for collectors.

"Nino" Farina, who won the title in 1950.
"Nino Farina was a man of courage bordering on the improbable. Capable of daring stunts which were often his winning move. A great driver, but one who always had to be wary of..." - this is the opening line with which Enzo Ferrari described Emilio Giuseppe Farina, known as Nino.
The Historiador Nino Farina II follows the first limited edition, which was highly acclaimed and sold out very quickly. This new chronograph, limited to 158 pieces, draws inspiration from historic racing and features the iconic Alfa Romeo colors, but is designed for a modern audience.

Primera Dama
The Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Primera Dama is inspired by 1930s Havana, a world where dance, music, and hedonistic pleasures reigned supreme. Unmistakably feminine, this ladies' watch, adorned with numerous captivating details, is perfect for any occasion.
Cuervo y Sobrinos invites you to step back in time and imagine life in the 1930s, an era when Cuba drew legions of tourists to its bustling streets and sun-drenched shores. With Prohibition in the United States continuing until December 1933, the Caribbean island, located just 90 miles off the coast of Florida, offered liberal laws regarding alcohol consumption and other hedonistic pleasures. Movie stars, prominent politicians, and mobsters frequented the island's casinos, while couples danced to the swing music of big bands before emerging from the various Art Deco buildings into the vibrant streets, which still teemed with life in the early hours.
To celebrate this energetic period in Cuban history, Cuervo y Sobrinos unveils a new collection of ladies' watches, The Historian First LadyThis range of period-inspired designs is decidedly feminine.
All versions of the Historiador Primera Dama feature a mother-of-pearl dial, most of which are crafted in vibrant hues. Each dial is embellished with either 3 or 12 diamonds, further enhancing the overall sense of sophistication. The leaf-shaped hour and minute hands convey a clear and unambiguous meaning.
Housed in a 36mm case and measuring 7.8mm thick, the Historiador Primera Dama is elegantly slender. The case is available in stainless steel or stainless steel with a gold PVD coating, the latter giving it a warm golden hue. As with other Historiador models, the lugs feature an ergonomic design that optimizes wearer comfort. Some versions boast a bezel set with 58 diamonds, further enhancing the watch's captivating allure. On the case back, the dial is adorned with a depiction of an elegant lady wearing a cloche hat, typical of the era, and embellished with a goose feather.
The watch is offered on a color-coordinated glossy Louisiana alligator strap with a steel pin buckle or on a matching metal bracelet. At the heart of this timepiece is the CyS 1005 caliber, a quartz movement with a battery providing 34 months of power, offering a high level of precision and requiring no winding.
Cuervo y Sobrinos invites you to celebrate the past with a watch perfectly suited to the present and the future.

Sir Winston
There Robusto Churchill “Sir Winston” This limited-edition model features a striking petrol blue guilloché dial. The watch comes with a glossy dark blue Louisiana alligator strap and a stainless steel and titanium bracelet.
Churchill first visited Cuba in 1895 at the age of 21. As a young officer in the 4th Hussars, based in London, he was eager to take part in military action. He decided to join the Spanish army to fight against Cuban forces in a conflict known as the Cuban War of Independence (1895–1898). After traveling to Arroyo Blanco, some 400 km east of Havana, he came under enemy fire. His first taste of Cuba lasted only a few weeks, but it would not be the last time he visited the sun-drenched Caribbean island.
In early 1946, visibly marked by his harrowing role during the Second World War, Churchill crossed the Atlantic Ocean at the invitation of President Truman. He lobbied America for a reconstruction loan for his country and delivered a series of speeches, but also spent considerable time seeing old friends, painting, and swimming. Most notably, he took the opportunity to visit Cuba for the second time, but this time as a former statesman.
President Truman offered Churchill the use of an American aircraft, which he accepted. Accompanied by his wife, Clementine, he traveled from Florida to Havana and stayed at the prestigious Hotel Nacional. During his stay on the island, he visited the Cuervo y Sobrinos shop.
Clearly, many Cubans were delighted to see Churchill during his visit to the island. Likewise, Churchill seemed to enjoy his time in Cuba, especially when smoking his favorite Havana cigars. It is reported that the former Prime Minister was thrilled to receive 500 Romeo y Julieta cigars, his preferred brand, as a gift. The name Robusto is used to describe a short, "robust" cigar, a fitting name for this new limited-edition model inspired by Churchill.

Collection Espléndidos
Espléndidos Scott Jacobs
In this incomparable case, a reinterpretation of a vintage Art Deco case from the 1920s and 1930s with a highly recognizable iconic style, Cuervo y Sobrinos has partnered with renowned American artist Scott Jacobs, widely known for painting Harley Davidson motorcycles. This new creation, limited to 100 pieces, features a 1939 Knucklehead Bobber motorcycle on its dial. !
Scott Jacobs, a famous American artist and vintage motorcycle enthusiast, is widely known for having painted Harley Davidsons, including the pre-war EL Knucklehead.
LThe Knucklehead was produced from 1936 to 1947; however, coveted by legions of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts, it is the pre-war models that remain the most desirable. Scott met two such enthusiasts, Patrick and Cris Simmons, who shared his passion for the iconic American brand. They owned a 1939 Knucklehead Bobber. Although this motorcycle differed from its original factory specifications, its bright blue and yellow paint job, fenders, and knobby tires attracted many admiring glances.
The dial of the Esplendidos Scott Jacobs watch served as a horological canvas for the American artist to express his creativity. Initially, Scott produced an original, full-size artwork. This artwork was then reproduced in miniature using a special four-color laser printing technique. Every vibrant hue of the 1939 Knucklehead Bobber is beautifully captured on the watch's distinctive dial.

Cuba Grand Prize
This "automotive" chronograph makes reference to the historic motor race of the
1957 Cuban Grand Prix!
In the same spirit, Cuervo y Sobrinos is associated with the "Historic Endurance" race which revives the passion for "old-school" motor racing!
Cuervo y Sobrinos has revisited the year 1957, when Cuba hosted the Cuban Grand Prix. The aptly named Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Gran Premio de Cuba "1957" is a new chronograph, limited to 162 pieces, inspired by this historic race but designed for a modern audience.
The first Cuban Grand Prix, the Gran Premio de Cuba, took place in 1957. The race was held on the wide avenues and the lively Malecón promenade, north of Havana.
In 1957, Juan Manuel Fangio, the famous Argentinian driver, secured victory at the wheel of his Maserati 300S. The following year, on the eve of the race, anti-government revolutionaries kidnapped Fangio, but the race still took place, and Stirling Moss emerged victorious in his Ferrari 335S. Unfortunately, the 1959 race was canceled due to political instability, but it returned one last time in 1960, when British driver Stirling Moss triumphed once more, this time in a Maserati Tipo 61.
Dressed in a vibrant coral red, the dial evokes passion. Indeed, the spectacle of brightly colored race cars, speeding around the track and driven to the very limits of their handling, must have been captivating. The cream-colored hour and minute hands are leaf-shaped, luminescent, and plump, while their color lends the dial a vintage charm. The central chronograph seconds hand and the counter hands are baton-shaped. The 30-minute and 12-hour counters are again cream-colored, while the small seconds display, located at 9 o'clock, is presented in a bright red.
The coral-red tones of the dial's central area are framed by a cream-colored circle that serves as a telemetry scale. Beyond this scale, a black ring, following the contours of the case, houses a tachymeter. This function allows the wearer to determine a vehicle's speed over a known distance.
Measuring 42 mm in diameter, the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Gran Premio de Cuba is housed in a stainless steel case. The dial is protected by a double-curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. The two piston-shaped chronograph pushers are positioned on the right side of the case, and the watch's signature cow horn lugs ensure optimal wearer comfort.
The watch comes on a matte black leather "racing-style" strap. It features numerous perforations, a detail inspired by vintage racing gloves. Red stitching and an openwork clasp bearing the CyS logo are two additional refinements. The case back is adorned with a Gran Premio 1957 Cuban badge, and the model is limited to just 162 pieces. This last number is inspired by the 162-mile race distance of the 1957 Gran Premio Cubano.
At the heart of the Historiador Gran Premio de Cuba "1957" is a Swiss automatic movement, the caliber CyS 8099. Based on the Valjoux 7753, this movement features an engraved oscillating weight and a 48-hour power reserve.
With the revival of the Historiador Gran Premio de Cuba "1957", Cuervo y Sobrinos celebrates Cuba's rich and illustrious history. Furthermore, the brand's heritage is honored while appealing to today's watch enthusiasts and motorsport fans.

Historiador Vuelo
Chronograph GMT Megarotor
The Historiador Vuelo chronograph is one of the brand's most representative historical models. Inspired by an original Cuervo y Sobrinos design from the 1940s, the Historiador Vuelo chronograph reveals a modern and sophisticated style, highlighted by its characteristic screw-down lugs.
The Vuelo chronograph features a contemporary touch highlighted by a complex multi-level dial with small seconds and minute counters on the first level, 24-hour index and numerals on the second level, and printed minutes and seconds on the third level.
The case is distinguished by its unparalleled complexity. Its construction is highly sophisticated, with lugs crafted separately and perfectly screwed to the case. Their silhouette harmonizes with the shape of the chronograph pushers. The superb steel case, 44 mm in diameter and a mere 14 mm thick (slim for an automatic chronograph!), is personalized on the side with the engraving "Vuelo" and houses a Dubois Dépraz 30342 movement with date and 24-hour display and a 40-hour power reserve. A tachymeter scale is engraved on the bezel.
The steel-blue minute and hour hands with white Super-LumiNova give this watch a modern and attractive style. The central steel-blue hand features a hollowed-out red arrowhead to highlight the Cuervo y Sobrinos coat of arms. The 24-hour hand is made of bright blue steel.
The Historiador Vuelo chronograph is complemented by an elegant Louisiana alligator strap.
This traditional version of the Vuelo chronograph with an ivory dial features unique characteristics compared to the newly released Vuelo "Emilio Carranza": the case boasts a highly open sapphire crystal case back, and the caliber is equipped with an oversized oscillating weight that significantly improves the rotor's rotation speed and its winding capacity. Furthermore, the central chronograph seconds hand features a large "arrow," or "flechazo" in Spanish, a hand that presents an additional technical challenge due to its size. These notable technical differences, along with the alligator strap and its folding clasp, explain the higher price of the
