Special Edition Watches Magazine "Collector's Guide" 2023

This fall 2023, we invite you to discover the partner brands of the eighth edition of our exhibition “Le Off des Indépendants”. Eight years already since we embarked on the adventure of an exhibition of independent watch brands, designed as a “Cabinet of Curiosities” and not as a marathon where time is counted and counted down.

As I have written on several occasions, a watch must be seen, touched, looked at, "studied" with care and put on the wrist! Discovering one or more watches takes time, your time... So you will know if it is made for you or not.

Brands appear every day on the internet, on “Kickstarter” or similar, you never know if they will survive the winter. Many true independent brands are rare on the market, or almost impossible to find. Our credo is to introduce you to rare or very rare brands and watches, in varied price ranges, which meet the wishes and tastes of our customers and all those who join us, more numerous each year.

Since its origin, the concept of this exhibition has been to offer a presentation of independent watch brands in Paris in order to compensate for the disappearance of real consumer shows which stretched over several days in Paris until 2015. Eight years already!

Every fall since 2016, the Fréret-Roy boutique has organized an original exhibition where certain brands come to exhibit during the exhibition which will begin this year at the beginning of November and and comes to a close at the very end of the year. Most brands decide to stay throughout the year and become permanent partners of the store, except those which do not find their audience there.

Our partner brands each have their own page on our site, you will find them under their brand name. To learn more about the history of each brand, refer to the dedicated page.

Some brands do not take part in this eighth edition of the Off des Indépendants 2023, others are joining us. I am pleased to  welcome Charles Zuber, Alexander Shorokhoff, Timeless, Zannetti Roma.

Certain composite or "duo" images can be downloaded in PSD version, the formatting of which can be modified in a few minutes in order to best insert them according to the pagination chosen. Do not hesitate to contact us for any additional questions.

ArtyA “Curvy Purity Tourbillon”

With expert mastery of sapphire glass work, ArtyA presents a “shaped” Tourbillon watch with a new tonneau-shaped case with a refined and ergonomic construction.

The Purity Tourbillon movement has been completely redesigned to adapt to the barrel shape of the case. With its perfect axial symmetry, and its crown at 12 o'clock, it is the result of the collaboration between the ArtyA and Telos teams.

The illusion of simplicity

Although the vast majority of watches are round, ArtyA easily knows how to think outside the box by offering new shapes, including the so-called “tonneau-shaped”.

Its generous volumes and shapes cut from a block of sapphire crystal, perfectly fitting the wrist, ArtyA's years of experience in the field make it possible today to create this sophisticated case offering a bold look that stands out from conventional watches .

Its curved and profiled sides create a design that is both elegant and technical. The angles are curved allowing you to doubly appreciate the immense 17 mm 4Hz tourbillon which floats in its center at 6 o'clock. With a beautiful presence on the wrist, the case has harmonious dimensions of 38.5 x 43 mm.

The curved shape of the set offers an interesting alternative, with its more flexible and more ergonomic lines than the round or rectangular models, a design created by Jérémie Arpa, son of Yvan Arpa.

The Curvy Purity Tourbillon movement, redesigned for the Tonneau shape

The result of the close collaboration between Telos and ArtyA, the Curvy movement is the new addition to the family of ArtyA-manufactured Purity Tourbillon calibers, here completely redesigned to fit into the watch's unique barrel-shaped case.

Recognizable by its remarkable axial symmetry and its crown placed at 12 o'clock, the Curvy Purity Tourbillon movement can be considered the culmination of the collection.

Its immense flying tourbillon with an oversized size of 17 mm was placed at 6 o'clock to be able to ideally observe it rotating. Thanks to its double barrel mounted in parallel, it offers an appreciable power reserve of 72 hours.

Above the double barrel, we admire the meticulous skeleton work. Sandblasted by cast iron and beveled by hand, we have an optimized display for clear reading of the time.

ArtyA Tiny Purity Tourbillon

The small version of a large room.

The latest edition of the Purity Tourbillon series has undergone a complete overhaul of its spectacular and exclusive double-barrel Manufacture flying tourbillon. Following the complete overhaul of the movement, the high complication piece has been reduced from an imposing 46 mm to a light and airy 39 mm.

For the development of this magnificent movement, Franck Orny and his team joined Yvan Arpa in a constructive partnership of skills, a sharing of values, and a beautiful creative vibrational dynamic.

Contemporary Luxury Lady's Collection

Women are undoubtedly at the heart of the creations of the Emile Chouriet factory and the various collections which are exclusively intended for them. Among them, the new Contemporary Luxury collection.

Reaffirming Emile Chouriet's vertical integration approach and its desire to equip its watches with in-house movements developed and produced in-house, the Contemporary Luxury collection is equipped with caliber EC5318, the brand's first automatic manufacture movement, designed exclusively for women's watches. A rare feat, even among major watch manufacturers, the EC5318 is equipped with a regulating organ produced in-house. When fully wound, it provides a power reserve of 45 hours.

Hemingway 2023

Cuervo y Sobrinos once again pays homage to its loyal customer Ernest Hemingway, famous writer and authentic legend of the 20th century, by launching a new collection of three watches entirely dedicated to the writer, after a first limited edition series which is now sold out and enjoyed a great success. Under the patronage of John Hemingway, the writer's grandson, the watch collection has been launched in Key West, Florida, on the occasion of Hemingway Days 2023, the annual celebration that salutes the achievements of the award-winning writer. Nobel Prize winner and appreciation of the island's laid-back lifestyle.

One model stands out from the Hemingway models to which the Havana brand has accustomed us. This is a GMT watch with a brushed blue dial whose color changes depending on its orientation in the light: "The Fisherman" is a GMT caliber sports watch, with 24-hour engraved bezel, water-resistant to 10 ATM, produced in 288 copies.

 “Coeur Ouvert® Tourbillon”

Black

On order, produced individually!

For technical details, please refer to the presentation of the “Cœur Ouvert® Tourbillon” in steel

Our Coeur Ouvert® Tourbillon is now offered in our Coeur Ouvert® Nouvelle Vague V2 T Black case, with a diameter of 42mm, in hand-brushed black steel, equipped with a domed sapphire crystal, which benefits from a very high quality reinforced anti-reflective applied on both sides and a sapphire crystal back.

Our tourbillon caliber is an integrated manufacture movement, without a generic base, and is hand-wound. Certified “Chronofiable”, it is adjusted in six positions and has a significant power reserve of  4 days of power reserve. The tourbillon is placed under a bridge at 6 o'clock.

The drawing of the skeleton is signed Michel Fréret-Roy, the cutout and the model have been deposited at the INPI, National Institute of Intellectual Property. Once skeletonized, the tourbillon movement is microblasted then treated in anthracite color as well as the flange, and the tourbillon bridge at 6 o'clock, whose shape is reminiscent of a bridge and also the "arches" of the movement, is finished in rhodium. The movement screws are blued steel.

An open dial signed at 3 o’clock!

In order to leave the skeletonized movement visible in its entirety, we moved the brand logo to 3 o'clock.

The logo which resembles the number "3" legitimately finds its place in this strategic location that we cannot fail to see as soon as the shirt sleeve partially reveals the watch! A signature that speaks for itself, a sign of identification. The hours are indicated by crimped “capsules”, hand-filled with superluminova whose color matches the hands.

Mauron Musy

Unix, MU06 41MM

Inspired by the past, shaping the future

The new MU 06 from the “Unix” collection embody a timeless but modern elegance at the same time, thanks to delicate curves and a sophisticated design identifiable with Mauron Musy timepieces. With a diameter of 41 mm and a thickness of 11 mm, they offer a perfect balance between finesse and presence, suitable for both men's and women's wrists.

The MU 06-302 watch is an exclusive edition distinguished by its hardened 18-karat Gold case, known as Hard Gold, offering incomparable durability. The mother-of-pearl dial exudes an aura of purity, while the polished red gold hands add a touch of subtle shine to this exceptional piece.

At its heart beats the brand's first micro-rotor manufacture movement, the MM02 caliber, offering a unique aesthetic thanks to its "stepped" architecture on several levels. It beats at 4 Hz providing a power reserve of 42 hours.

The water resistance of the watch is ensured by nO-Ring technology, guaranteeing reliable protection up to 100 meters deep.

The MU 06-201 watch is also available in 41 mm, much more martial, it plays on shades of black.

Entirely made in Switzerland, in the St-Aubin workshops, this watch proudly bears the "Swiss Crafted" label, attesting that each component is meticulously worked in Switzerland, thus benefiting from the rich regional watchmaking know-how.

Presented as a duo in the visual below, these watches oppose and complement each other like Yin and Yang.

MUSE watches are both reliable timepieces and jewelry with a totally unique and innovative design. This new concept makes traditional hands disappear in favor of finely crafted patterns which rotate at the speed of hours, minutes and seconds, generating compositions in perpetual movement, thus offering you a true living art.

The watches are produced in Switzerland with the highest quality materials, the cases are made of titanium or titanium covered with rose gold, the dials are made of natural stones such as onyx and aventurine. A historic movement, the ETA 2776 caliber, created in 1969 and whose production was stopped in 1982, equips the various Muse models. Muse engineers have reworked several hundred kits, carefully kept for decades, by a collector and equipped it with an oscillator at 21,600 vibrations (3Hz) in order to favor the power reserve which is 48 hours minimum . Adorned with black rhodium, its finishes are unique: circular ribs, diamond-cut angles and a sunny oscillating weight whose engraving recalls the brand's logo. This revisited movement has been named Caliber MUSE “MU 01” and equips the men’s and women’s models in the collection.

MUSE: ART AND EMOTION

Kyrian 44FBX

Three circles represent the goal, the target.

Three wings are the symbols of our action, the arrow.

Inspired by the symbolism of the Celtic triskelion, the KYRIAN model invites you to become

the arrow of your destiny, and follow your own path in the direction of your dreams.

As in all its creations, MUSE thinks outside the box and mixes boldness and elegance, art, movement and emotions.

Created in 2016 by a team of experienced and passionate designers and watch engineers, MUSE is based on a completely unique concept and designs that highlight the artistic sense, philosophy and demand for quality of its creators.

Central aesthetic elements of our watches, the “indicator” discs also ensure time reading.
The thinness of their walls makes their manufacturing a true technical feat.

Gentleman BLAZER

Chrono “Column Wheel”

The Balance of Elegance

It's attention to detail that makes the difference between normal and extraordinary. (Francis Atterbury)

The details of this new Gentleman model are numerous, from the column wheel movement to the guilloché dial, including the unusual combination of colors inspired by the informal style of the men's BLAZER. On the other hand, the elegance of style is always hidden in the details, in the case of a men's "blazer" there is also the ability, not for everyone, to know how to skillfully combine different colors and fabrics. The Blazer jacket should contrast with the pants in color or shade depending on the occasion and the character of the wearer. The attitude of the wearer will be decisive! As well as the “wrist”!

And yes, because for the first time, or rather among the rare times, a watch brand is trying to combine different colors between the counters and the bottom of the dial which are not the traditional pandas. Combinations as daring as they are original, typical of Paul Picot!

These first models are offered in Blue/Grey and Grey/Blue combinations... but Meadow Green and Dark Chocolate are also available. The base of the dial is further personalized with a grid guilloche reminiscent of that of the legendary Paul Picot C-Type Plongeur.

The style of the watch combined with the personality and the wrist that will wear it, will make the new Gentleman BLAZER an original and unexpected symbol of class, elegance and unique style.

History

Gentleman is one of Paul Picot's most emblematic collections, presented 25 years ago! It owes its name to the typical style of English elegance from the end of the 19th century, as represented on the backgrounds of the first references from the 1990s.

Concorde

A NEW SIGNATURE COLLECTION

To mark its 50th anniversary, PEQUIGNET, the only French fine watchmaking manufacturer, draws on the best of its history to present Concorde, a new signature collection. Concorde, a link between proven know-how and assertive design, was presented in preview at Watches & Wonders 2023 in Geneva. Continuity of 50 years of French watchmaking excellence, Concorde reinterprets the codes of the PEQUIGNET house.

A NEW SIGNATURE MESH

A new signature knit, inspired by the iconic Moorea, has been developed exclusively for Concorde. Its spear-point links are a subtle nod to the obelisk of the famous Parisian square from which Concorde takes its name. PEQUIGNET reconnects with its DNA by creating, 39 years after the Moorea launched in 1984, a new bracelet designed by its French engineer-designers. A three-dimensional morph from square to circle, the steel case unites harmoniously with the triangular links of the bracelet to give substance to a watch with geometric shapes, softened by the flexibility given to the metal.

The Concorde collection is equipped with the Initial EPM03 caliber

Automatic manufacture caliber, 21 jewels, 65-hour power reserve obtained at a frequency of 28,800 vph, stop seconds, openwork oscillating weight displaying the lily in relief and a spiral decoration, two-way winding.

Available in two cases of 40 mm or 36 mm, Concorde adapts to all wrists.

The Concorde collection consists of twelve models in two sizes and 6 dial colors: gold, silver, English green, navy blue, anthracite gray and pink.

(the latter only available in 36 mm)

The Russian watch factory Raketa, located in Saint Petersburg

presents all of its collections exclusively in Paris at Fréret-Roy!

Launched in 1961 in honor of cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin's first flight into space, Raketa continues its evolution in the 21st century in its historic factory, now modernized. The new Raketa watch collections, still made in Saint-Petersburg, have been available in France since 2017.

As if to fuel the legend of the brand, the plans for the Raketa 2615 automatic caliber, which had been dormant for decades in the old Saint-Petersburg factory, were found, improved, brought up to date and relaunched in 2014. This historic caliber equips the current collections.

“Raketa Ekranoplan”

Between sky and sea!

Built by the Soviet Union in the early 1980s as an experimental coastal defense craft - part plane, part boat - the Ekranoplan can be considered one of the most extraordinary and unusual machines ever created by the Soviet Union. 'man. The Ekranoplan combined the best qualities of a ship and an airplane: it could move as much cargo as a boat and could fly as fast as an airplane, reaching speeds of 500 km/h. It flew at distances of up to 2,000 km thanks to the “screening effect” which formed under its immense wings about 4 meters above the surface of the sea. This allowed it to move without be spotted by radar. Its name “Lun” translates from Russian as “the harrier”, and not without reason, as this bird of prey is known for hunting in silent, low-altitude flight.

A witness to the past

The only Ekranoplan Lun ever built sits today on a beach in the Caspian Sea near the town of Derbent (Russia), as a solitary reminder of the past achievements of the Soviet people. Its gigantic size, unique features and strange design testify to the strength and originality of Soviet engineering. Even today, almost fifty years after its conception, it looks extremely futuristic.

A watch that pays homage to

Ekranoplan Mon

The Raketa Watch Manufacture has always been inspired by the greatest human exploits. By launching this model, Raketa wishes to draw attention to the Ekranoplan Lun and thus contribute to its preservation.

A new 41.6 mm diameter case and steel bracelet have been specially designed for this model: their rough and virile design corresponds to the spirit of the Soviet Ekranoplan.

The Raketa “Ekranoplan” model has several links with the Ekranoplan Lun: - the insert of the rotating bezel is made from a piece of metal from the Ekranoplan Lun, officially transmitted to the Raketa Manufacture by the city of Derbent (who is in charge of preserving the Ekranoplan); - the double zero on the dial recalls the front view of the Ekranoplan with the two circular containers above the cockpit.

the design of the compass signs on the bezel is inspired by the compass on the control panel located in the cockpit of the Ekranoplan; - an embossed image of the Ekranoplan is printed on the dial.

The case back reveals the Raketa 24-hour automatic movement, entirely manufactured by the Raketa watch manufacture in Saint Petersburg.

Each watch comes with an additional leather strap.

The model is also available on request in a gift box including the Raketa “Ekranoplan” watch and its steel bracelet, an additional leather strap and the model of the Ekranoplan Lun on a scale of 1:400.

Maël Oberkampf

Founder of Timeless

The Timless Watch collection was designed in Vevey, Switzerland in 2017 by Maël Oberkampf, a Swiss graphic designer and illustrator who has been passionate about industrial design in all its forms since childhood. This watch is intended to be a synthesis of an industrial design, all curves, from the beginning of the 20th century and a more contemporary and refined style. The meeting between the past and the future of design is embodied in the timelessness of this timepiece.

This timepiece plays with curves, textures and depth with its powerful shapes and subtle details, with simplicity and complexity. Our source of inspiration? The Swiss industrial heritage that made Switzerland famous and shaped its image as a pioneer. Old locomotives, heavy machinery, industrial tools and even dam turbines with an emblematic cylindrical shape... so many creations which have nourished our imagination and guided our aesthetic choices to create this watch.

THE STORY OF

RICCARDO ZANNETTI

is not ordinary.

His adventure began a long time ago, thanks to Riccardo Zannetti's passion for beauty, painting and the figurative arts.

From a young age, he attended art school where he discovered his true talent for drawing.

Taking advantage of the family experience in the world of watchmaking and artistic creation, in the 1980s, Riccardo Zannetti launched a small production of gold or silver watches, which are distinguished by graphic references to the Roman and Greek art and classical forms. Greek symbols quickly became its distinctive sign, while the frog would represent its lucky talisman for years.

Its original specialization, the growing number of craftsmen involved, and the artistic crafts applied to the production of its timepieces, quickly made the Zannetti workshop one of the most important and best known, conquering a customers to
United States, Germany, France, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Middle East.

In each of its timepieces, we find an artistic touch and a personal approach to watchmaking, two elements which can only be guaranteed by a very limited production.

The "Regatta" watch presented here is undoubtedly one of my favorites from the Roman brand.

Regent Regatta Champlevé

R4RG.A1S-BA

Refined and hand-engraved, the dials are the distinctive signs of the models in the Regent collection. Imagination, dreams and adventures are represented by the suggestive designs which have been carefully engraved on a Corozo (vegetable ivory) base, then using translucent shades of red, blue, black, then pink, gray and light blue.

Technical characteristics:

Hand-brushed steel case, 42 mm in diameter, 10 mm thick, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, open steel back

Translucent enamel dial applied with the so-called “champlevé” technique
Automatic movement decorated on ETA base modified by Zannetti

Initially known for his expertise in setting precious and semi-precious stones, Charles Zuber, the legendary Swiss jewelry designer, celebrated through the brand that bears his name, was an artisan of the most prestigious brands in High Jewelry and Haute Horlogerie, endowed with an aesthetic sensitivity, an in-depth knowledge of materials and precious stones, and exceptional know-how from the Artistic Crafts of jewelry and watchmaking creation.

By calling on a renowned designer, in the person of Éric Giroud, the jewelry and watch brand Charles Zuber is giving his moment of glory to this brilliant Geneva goldsmith who has now disappeared.

Charles Zuber is today a Swiss brand based in Geneva, imbued with the spirit of the Founder, carried by three passionate investors who brought together their respective talents to revive the legacy of the great, deceased master jeweler.

With each creation, Charles Zuber's teams put all their knowledge and virtuosity at the service of an exceptional final result, meeting the demands of connoisseurs and lovers of rare refinements. Each creation combines several skills to give birth to a dazzling work combining technical prowess, ancestral mastery and contemporary inspiration.

Originally, High Jewelry was the pillar that built the reputation of Charles Zuber, the master jeweler.

Today, Charles Zuber brings the unpredictable to life by escaping the norms of traditional luxury in a neo-Swiss approach that exudes exuberance.
